BBQ Spices & Seasonings
Good BBQ is all about flavor. The right spices and seasonings make the difference between a standard dish and a real BBQ experience. Discover the basics for making your own BBQ rubs, marinades and spice blends.
The Basics: BBQ Rubs
A good BBQ rub is the foundation of every flavorful preparation. For beef, we recommend a combination of paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper and a touch of cayenne for heat. For chicken, a lighter rub with sage, mustard powder and some honey powder is perfect. For lamb, rosemary, thyme and fennel seeds work wonderfully.
Smoking Wood for Flavor
The right smoking wood elevates your BBQ to a higher level. Hickory gives a classic, smoky flavor to beef. Apple and cherry wood are milder and perfect for poultry. For lamb, you can place rosemary branches directly on the coals for an aromatic smoke flavor. Olive pits give a delicious Mediterranean twist to lamb and beef.
